Let the 50,000 word insanity begin – NaNoWriMo!

I’ve done something completely crazy, I’m afraid. I signed up for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), an online event where participants agree to write 50,000 words in one month, November 1-30. The result doesn’t have to be any good, thank dog. It just has to be 50,000 words.
That’s not the crazy part. The first draft of my first novel is nearly done. Piece of cake, right?
Ha! The “rules” of NaNoWriMo include starting from scratch on November 1. No, there’s no way they could know when I did the writing. But a) I want to enter the spirit of the thing and b) I am kind of a dorky rule-follower. (And I know who you are out there, you who are saying “just type the same word 50,000 times.” That’s not allowed either.)
So I’m stocked up on caffeine, hoping the kids leave enough trick-or-treat candy to tide me over the first couple of days, and ready to start at 12:01am Monday morning. The goal for the first week is 11,667 words. (I think they rounded up from 11,666 2/3. But maybe I’ll try for that 2/3 of a word – nominations anyone??)
You can find out more about NaNoWriMo here: www.nanowrimo.org. I encourage any of you who are also insane to join the fun!!
THIS is why I’m working part-time. To be able to do crazy sh** like this. 🙂
