Has a book ever come into your life at just the right time? That was the topic of my post this month on The Writers Vineyard, the blog for Champagne Book Group authors. I’m conscripting it into double-duty as this week’s Project Create. Here’s the link and an excerpt:
In last month’s post, I mentioned that I’d read Ray Bradbury’s Dandelion Wine, and it might have saved my heart’s desire.
I’ll get to the explanation in a minute.
For a writer, nothing is more exhilarating than connecting with an audience in a deep, personal way. There are other tremendous moments – it’s pretty dang exciting when you get an offer of a book contract, and it’s quite wonderful when you read your own work back to yourself and realize you’ve created a world on that blank page. But when you find your work taken in, taken up, and transformed by a reader, and made into something that has meaning for that person – well, wow. It’s a powerfully moving experience.
I remember, for example, the first time I read an excerpt from my then-work-in-progress at an open mic event.
